Projects We Support

META is an artist residency located on farmland deep in the rolling hills of Sonoma Valley. Here artists find retreat from the urban landscape and the opportunity to reconnect with the daily ritual of pioneering raw land. We celebrate the infinite space that exists between curiosity and discovery, and through lifestyle, hope to inspire resident creatives to explore and experiment with nature, process and emotion. META is a soulful prayer built by the burgeoning vanguard as relative to one another, without regard for the critic, the market or the institution. Most importantly, META an inspired response to the love and creativity of New Orleans. This project is a joyful extension of a spirit and 'je ne sais quoi' born and bred in sweet Louisiana.

META is nestled on sprawling mountaintop acreage with a rich history of three Indian hunting camps, farms and fruit orchards, and a distillary and retreat during prohibition. The hermetic nature of our location exalts the American ideal of freedom to pursue happiness. Our liberty bell is growing medicinal plants and protecting our right to inhabit private land.We are currently under the scrutiny of Sonoma County officials, because private neighbors are seeking absolution of the project. We are moved by the spirit of our ancestors and intend to dutifully respond to this conviction with love in hearts and steadfast working hands. Fellow artists are encouraged to articulate the joys and struggles associated with this journey.

American Medicinals and META Residency would like to thank Life is Art Foundation for the great effort the organization put forth to help establish our farm and residency program. The few months Life is Art spent in California collaborating with the company were indeed wild and resonant, though American Medicinals has held no intention of funding Life is Art Foundation's programs or exhibitions. The creative involvement of Life is Art Foundation in the Sonoma project amicably dissolved in October of 2010, as Kirsha Kaechele moved to Tasmania and could no longer be involved in building the vision. American Medicinals and META Residency wish Kaechele and Life is Art the best of luck with all of their current and future endeavors.
